Inside Hobe Sound

Hobe Sound, Florida is a colorful section of award-winning Martin County. Named after the ‘Jove’ or Jobe’ Indians, the area now is a combination of neighborhoods and gated communities. The Northern border isRoad To BeachStuart and the Southern border is Jonathan Dickinson Park. The Inland Waterway (ICW) provides an interesting Eastern border — with famous Jupiter Island forming the outer bank of the ICW.

The population is 22,000, probably doubles in the Winter Season. There are a series of gated communities, most with golf courses. The Route 1 corridor has a series of shopping centers and restaurants. Public services are outstanding, because Hobe Sound is part of well-regarded Martin County. Health care is provided by Martin Health Services — a top 100 United States hospital and health services. There is a walk-in Martin Health facility in Hobe Sound. The hospitals are eight to fifteen minutes north in Stuart.The attractions are mild weather, unlimited boating and fishing, miles of beaches (five minutes from downtown Hobe Sound), and a variety of sports venues — from stunning golf to tennis, swimming, croquet, bocce, etc. Median household income is $45K. In the 1920s, the area was called Picture City, as developers sought to create a film oasis built around a Greek Theme. A solid hurricane took the movies out of Hobe Sound, and the community returned to being a residential area — focusing on great beaches, boating, and golf.

The barrier island on Hobe Sound’s east is the famous town of Jupiter Island — 300 ultra wealthy families, including Celine Dion, and golfers: Tiger Woods, Greg Norman, and NIck Price. This village is built around the Jupiter Island Club whose members seem to jet between their Rhodes Island manses and Jupiter Island. The Jupiter Island homes are not inside a gated community, but the homes are privately gated and landscaped for privacy. Tiger’s home is estimated at $80 Mil, Greg Norman is asking $65 mil on the public market. Celine Dion’s property complete with a private water park is estimated at 20 Mil. Real estate in Hobe Sound itself is down 40 to 50% from 2005 to today. Gated golf communities are attractively priced, with homes down 50+% from 2005. Hobe Sounds’ most famous golf courses are Hobe Sound Golf Club (a ‘AA’ Club), Loblolly Pines Country Club (‘AAA’ Club’, McArthur Golf Club (Nick Price is the Designer/Host and is rated ‘AAA Club’), and the Medalist Golf Club (Greg Norman is the Designer/Host of this ‘AAA Club’).
